The Gospel

We’re created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27) for the purpose of engaging in a personal relationship with Him, but we’ve all departed from this purpose, and sought to live our lives as we see fit.  No one is innocent.  No one is good.  As the Bible says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God…” (Romans 3:23)

There is a consequence for every action.  By departing from the purpose for which we were created and therefore rebelling toward our Creator, we have chosen to accept the consequences for our actions.  “For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23).

God is perfectly just and must grant us the just wages for our sin.  This means that every created man and woman justly deserves to spend eternity in Hell.

God is also perfectly merciful, with perfect love for His creation.  He chose to pay the price for our sins Himself.  He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to dwell among us in flesh and blood, and to die a sacrificial death as our substitute.

All that He requires of us is that we turn to Him and accept this sacrifice that He made on our behalf.  “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

We can never be “good enough” to earn forgiveness, or “bad enough” that God will refuse to grant us forgiveness.  God is perfect, and we must be made perfect in His sight.  Only by accepting the sacrifice that Jesus made can we be made perfect in the sight of God.  If you call upon the Lord, He shall save you.

You may pray a prayer similar to this: “Lord, I know that I am a sinner, and that I deserve eternal punishment in Hell.  I turn from my sin, and I turn to Jesus, who You sent to die on the cross as the payment for my sin.  I accept Your gift of eternal life, and I embrace You as my Savior.  I commit to make you the Lord of my life, and to love and obey you with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength.  I pray this in the name of Jesus Christ.  Amen.”

A prayer itself cannot save anyone, but if you have genuinely and sincerely expressed these things before God, He has saved you and given you abundant and eternal life in Him.
